Viners Assure Safety Knives Featured on BBC News

On 25/11/2019, BBC North West Tonight featured our brand new Viners Assure Safety Knives on their daytime and evening news programmes, to highlight how we are trying to address the growing issue of knife safety around the home.

In response to new legislation called the Offensive Weapons Act 2019, where the UK Government has reclassified kitchen knives as an offensive weapon, we have developed an innovative new knife blade design by removing the sharp tip and replacing it with a squared end.

Created in conjunction with 1700 UK consumers who were consulted on the proposed new shape, we have designed a highly functional knife which is shaped to reduce and prevent injuries, accidents and fatalities, whilst still offering the same performance expected of a standard kitchen knife.

With a square shape, similar to that of a Santoku knife, the new Assure collection is made of high quality stainless steel and features ergonomically designed, soft touch handles for the ultimate in comfort with a black non-stick coating on the blade to reduce cutting friction. Delivering the same performance as a standard knife to tackle all cooking tasks, the new blade design also gives added peace of mind in the home, helping to reduce unnecessary accidents when preparing food and washing up with no sharp points to cause injury.

Available to buy from February 2020, the range offers six different knives, knife blocks and safety scissors.
